Ia adalah pemplastis bukan phthalate
Plastik dan polimer adalah tunjang utama kehidupan moden. Ia ditemui dalam kapal terbang dan kereta, semua jenis pembungkusan, peranti dan produk perubatan, dan banyak lagi barangan lain. Walau bagaimanapun, produk ini boleh menjejaskan kesihatan manusia jika ia mengandungi tahap bahan kimia berbahaya yang tinggi seperti phthalates. Sebagai tindak balas kepada permintaan yang semakin meningkat untuk pemplastis selamat, syarikat sedang mencari alternatif. Produk ini dibuat melalui pengesteran langsung asid tereftalat yang telah dimurnikan dengan rantai bercabang 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) dalam reaktor industri. Ia boleh digunakan dalam pelbagai jenis aplikasi, termasuk penyemperitan, kalender, pengacuan suntikan, dan pengacuan lumpur. Ia mempunyai profil toksikologi yang lebih rendah daripada orto-ftalat seperti DOP, DEHP, DINP, dan BBP. Ia juga tidak menyebabkan percambahan peroksisom dalam enzim hati, seperti yang dilakukan oleh sesetengah phthalates.
Ia adalah plasticizer bukan toksik
Plasticizers ditambah kepada polivinil klorida (PVC) untuk memecahkan interaksi antara untaian-dipol dan melembutkan bahan. Mereka juga meningkatkan fleksibiliti dan kekuatan tegangannya. Kebanyakan plasticizer adalah phthalates, tetapi alternatif bukan toksik telah dibangunkan.
Ester phthalate yang diperoleh daripada asid phthalic adalah jenis pemplastis utama yang digunakan, terutamanya kerana ia menyediakan ciri pemprosesan dan prestasi yang memenuhi kebanyakan aplikasi. Jenis pemplastik lain termasuk epoksi, alifatik, trimellitat, dan fosfat. Ini kurang biasa dan mungkin mempunyai profil yang lebih toksikologi.
Dalam kajian ketoksikan pembiakan tetikus CD-1 Switzerland, di-n-octyl phthalate (DOP) tidak dikaitkan dengan kesan pembiakan buruk pada dos yang menyebabkan hepatomegali. Hubungan & motilitas sperma epididimis tidak berubah pada dos DOP 5%; bahagian sperma yang tidak normal secara morfologi menurun sedikit. Tahap kencing salah satu metabolit oksidatifnya, mono-n-octyl phenol, juga meningkat pada dos yang mendorong hepatomegali.
Ia adalah pemplastik biodegradasi
Dalam beberapa tahun kebelakangan ini, banyak perhatian telah ditumpukan kepada menggantikan plastik berasaskan petroleum dengan bahan terbiodegradasi. Walau bagaimanapun, biopolimer secara amnya mempunyai sifat mekanikal yang lebih rendah daripada bahan api fosil. Oleh itu, mereka perlu diadun dengan plasticizer untuk meningkatkan kebolehkerjaan mereka.

Etoksilasi dan metil ester terhasil minyak goreng sisa telah diuji sebagai pemplastis untuk poli(asid laktik) (PLA). Pengaruhnya terhadap kebolehcampuran, suhu peralihan kaca, kekuatan tegangan, rintangan kemeruapan dan biodegradasi PLA telah disiasat. Keputusan menunjukkan bahawa ester etoksilasi mempamerkan prestasi terbaik.

Dioctyl terephthalate (DOTP) ialah phthalate aromatik yang digunakan sebagai plasticizer untuk Polivinil Klorida. Ia dianggap sebagai plasticizer tidak meruap dan juga tidak toksik. Ia dihasilkan melalui pengesteran asid tereftalat dan 2-etilheksanol. Ia digunakan dalam penyemperitan, kalendar, pengacuan suntikan, pengacuan putaran, pengacuan celup, dan pengacuan lumpur. Ia juga boleh digunakan dalam aplikasi salutan.
Phthalates ialah sekumpulan bahan kimia sintetik yang digunakan sebagai pemplastis untuk menjadikan PVC fleksibel. Ia dilepaskan ke alam sekitar semasa pengeluaran dan pelupusan, terutamanya melalui loji rawatan air sisa dan tapak pelupusan. Ia mungkin disimpan atau diambil oleh tanaman yang diberi makan kepada ternakan, dan boleh memasuki rantai makanan manusia(1).
Dalam air, nilai log Koc 6.3-1 dan 4.38-2 menunjukkan bahawa di-n-octyl phthalate dijangka menjerap kepada pepejal terampai dan sedimen(SRC). Ia tidak dijangka meruap dari permukaan tanah berdasarkan pemalar Hukum Henry dan anggaran tekanan wap(1).
Ia adalah termoplastik
Dioctyl terephthalate (DOTP) ialah pemplastis bebas phthalate yang penting untuk PVC. Ia adalah diester asid phthalic dan alkohol benzil. Ia mempunyai kestabilan haba yang baik dan sifat penebat elektrik. Ia juga kurang meruap dan air boleh diekstrak daripada DINP. Ia digunakan untuk membuat formulasi dawai dan kabel tahan haba, lantai vinil, dan trim dalaman automotif.
Ia boleh disediakan dengan alkoholisis polietilena tereftalat (2-EH) dengan pelarut eutektik dalam berasaskan kolin klorida. Proses ini menjimatkan dan mesra alam. Produk yang dinyahwarna kemudian ditulenkan menggunakan tanah liat asid, zeolit, ayak molekul, dan alumina.
Molekul ini mempunyai sistem cincin dengan tujuh atom karbon. Ia larut dalam pelarut organik dan mempunyai kemeruapan yang rendah. Ia juga kurang toksik daripada DINP dan boleh dicampur dengan pelbagai bahan kimia. Ia adalah pengganti yang baik untuk phthalates yang telah diharamkan di Eropah.
